Facebook Is Making Money (Kind of)
Well, this is interesting…
Earlier this year I talked about how hard it is for media start ups like Facebook to make money. How things have changed. I always thought Facebook's biggest problem was making the advertising pay by getting people to click on ads (amongst other things like relevancy etc). Since then, Zukerberg & Co. have recruited Google's top brass to weave some of their Adwords magic into the Facebook advertising platform. And it appears to be working. Yesterday they announced they've passed the 300 million user mark – and are cash flow positive (eg: they've stopped losing money). This supports my gut feeling that Facebook PPC Advertising is going to get big in 2010. I'm working away to "crack the Facebook PPC code" – along with people far cleverer than me – and sooner or later, one of us is going to get some traction. I also have a feeling the ex-Google Adwords exec will be making changes for the better in the Facebook PPC interface – tweaking it to serve more relevant ads and creating an easier to use and more transparent interface for its advertisers. With Adwords becoming increasingly competitive, I feel a highly targeted, easier to use Facebook PPC could catch the eye of many Advertisers in 2010. Watch this space. I agree with you George. With Google wanting more money
we’re all going to start looking for alternative ways to generate traffic. In fact this is the main reason we’ve (the wife) has got good at SEO.
I think Facebook advertsing is going to grow and grow. Must get my head around it. Speak soon.

Absolutely.
With rising CPC in some markets, it’s actually cheaper to send out a multi-step direct mailing than buy one click — which is great for your business
We must catch up soon…
