Escort RS Turbo Mods:
This is very safe and simple mod to your RST, taking a good sound engine up to 180bhp* while still maintaining all its
drivability, but adding to your driving enjoyment.
By installing a remapped Bayjoo chip to your ECU to alter the ignition curve and a -31 genuine Garrett actuator to allow
14psi (1bar) of working pressure (boost).
With a hybrid turbo the boost can be raised to 17psi of working pressure, however this normally has adverse effects as the turbo
charge temperature is too high, so a larger intercooler needs to be fitted to cool the temperature down. You should be seeing
200bhp*.
With all engine upgrades it is always necessary to fit hotter spark plugs to ensure they can cope with the added pressure. A
decent set of competition spark plug leads is also recommended and a turbo blow off valve (dump valve) is also highly
recommended.

Carb Tuning:
When it comes to tuning carbs many things need to be taken into account -- it really isn’t as simple as adjusting the CO and off
you go!
Here at Redline Tuning we specialise in multiple carburetor set ups. A typical set of twin 45 Weber DCOE has many adjustable
factors: idle jets, main jets, air correctors, air bleeds, CO, injection pumps and jets -- to name but a few.
In order for your engine to respond well under any situation all these items need to be checked and adjusted. At Redline Tuning we
carry a full set of idle, airs and mains for both Weber and Dellorto carburetors. We also stock jet drills from 0.20mm up to 2.5mm
typically in 0.05 increments so you can be assured your jets are spot on for your application not just “there abouts”.
When we carry out a full set up on your vehicle, we will start with a full data log session in order to check how the engine is
running and how it’s fuelling. From here we can make suggestions and recommendations on what needs to be changed on your fuelling and carry
out the necessary improvements.
After each adjustment to the jets we check again to make sure the modifications are taking us in the correct direction of more
power. Some engines produce more power on a leaner mixture; others need more fuel so it isn't as simple as more fuel equals more power.
This whole operation is carried out on our latest computer equipment using wide band AFR meters and data logging equipment.

Engine Tuning:
With the most up to date engine analysis computer equipment you can rest assured you're in safe and professional hands.
We typically wire up all the sensors on the vehicle that control fuelling plus we use a wide band lambda sensor to measure the
air/fuel ratio.
We start off with a basic set up on carbureted vehicles checking carb balance etc. We then perform a power run typically in third
gear.
From here we can start to alter fuelling etc and lay the logged results over the first run to check for an increase in power or a
loss of power!
A typical example is to increase the fuel over the rev range, we can then see that for example, the car made more power on run no
1 with leaner fuel up to 3500 revs and then more power after 3500 revs.
From here we continue to alter the fuelling/jets to ensure we develop more power over the entire rev range. The same applies to
the engine timing.
Once we have established a good power increase for a full throttle run we then look at the cruising side of the engine tune and
the transition between the two. This ensures the car maintains drivability and fuel consumption as well as producing more power.
Throughout this process we are listening for engine knocking and pinking to ensure the vehicle is still on the safe side of
maximum performance.

AFR Ratio:
Air/Fuel Ratio is the best way to tune an engine!!
An engine needs a mixture of fuel and air in the correct ratio; most modern manufacturers aim for an AFR of 14.7 parts of air to 1
part of fuel. At this point the engine produces the least amount of emissions but not the most amount of power.
Typically we try to aim for an AFR of around 12.8/1 to 13.5/1 this is normally where an engine produces peak
power.
AFR is difficult to accurately measure, which is why we use the most up to date data logging equipment and wide band lambda
sensors. This form of tuning is the most effective way of setting up carbureted applications and takes out all the guess work normally
associated with tuning carbs (i.e. reading the headers and spark plugs).
It is very important to get the AFR right on turbo applications as too lean a mixture, (i.e. not enough fuel) will cause the
engine to run hot and result in piston/valve melt!! Also, too rich a mixture will rob you of horse power and can cause bore
wash!!
Any change to an engine will have drastic affects on the engines AFR so a simple change of exhaust will require the engine to be
tuned to obtain maximum potential.
Don’t waste HP and risk engine damage. Get your vehicle looked at and tuned, if nothing else just to check its safe!!
